Congressman Watt to speak at RCCC

SALISBURY - U.S. Congressman Melvin Watt, representative of North Carolina’s 12th District, will speak to political science students at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, Oct. 28 at 2:30 p.m. The entire RCCC community and the general public are invited.

Watt will speak in RCCC’s North Campus Teaching Auditorium in Salisbury. RCCC political science instructor Jason Slone invited Rep. Watt to speak to RCCC’s students.

Two men rob delivery driver of Buffalo Wings

SALISBURY - Police in Salisbury say two men robbed a delivery driver of an order of Buffalo Wings on Tuesday.

According to police, the driver for Italy Cafe on West Innes Street was making a delivery to a home on the 1000 block of South Church Street. When the driver pulled up to the home, two men walked up to the driver's car and the driver told them the price of the food.

According to police, one of the men began to pay, turned to the other man asking for five more dollars to pay the bill.

Tornado watch issued extended for Thursday morning

SALISBURY - The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for the area until 2 Thursday morning.

A watch means that conditions are favorable for the formation of a tornado.

"We're not through with this yet," those are the words of WBTV Meteorologist Al Conklin.

Severe storms ripped through the area Tuesday night causing damage in several counties, but skirting the area of Rowan and Cabarrus without causing any damage.

Storms with heavy rain also moved through the area Wednesday night.

"Nashville Nights" gets the okay from the Planning Board

SALISBURY - It was a split vote, but the Salisbury Planning Board has given the okay to a Salisbury woman hoping to open a country/bluegrass bar downtown.

Karen Littleton told WBTV that "Nashville Nights" would be an asset to the downtown and that security would be strictly enforced.

Candlelight Vigil planned for Thursday

SALISBURY - October is nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

This is a time to raise awareness by holding events in memory of those who have lost their lives at the hands of their abusers. It is also a time to celebrate all survivors of intimate partner violence.  People of all ages are invited to attend a community-wide vigil.
