Copper thieves caught on the roof
Crime

SALISBURY - Two alleged copper thieves were spotted on the roof of the PetSmart store in Salisbury late Sunday night.

Police tell WBTV that a passer by noticed a man walking around in the store and called 911.

The store isn't schedule to open for several months.

When police arrived they saw someone walking on the roof.  Police say the men had stripped 8 air conditioning units on the roof of copper, and were ready to start handing it down.

Police estimated the value of the copper at $10,000.

Charles David Booth was caught, but a second suspect managed to get away.  Police do have a warrant for his arrest.

Police called the fire department to respond with the ladder truck to get Booth down from the roof.

Booth was charged with breaking and entering and is being held under $25,000.

Coincidentally, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police arrested two men early Monday morning allegedly stealing copper from the roof of a building in a strip shopping center.

In that case the Charlotte Fire Department was called to help get those two suspects down from the roof.
