Man robs grocery store at gunpoint | Crime

ROWAN COUNTY - Deputies in Rowan County are on the lookout for a man who robbed a grocery store at gunpoint on Friday.

The robber walked into the Village Grocery and Garden Shop on Highway 601.  Witnesses said he took a piece of gum to the counter and then pulled out a handgun.  The man demanded all of the money in the cash register.

According to the sheriff's office, the suspect is a black male, about 6' tall, and in his late 30's.  He was wearing a green baseball cap and the front of the hat was white. 

He was also wearing a green bandana over the back of his head, a purple long-sleeved windbreaker, black pants, and shoes.

After the robbery, the man ran out of the in the direction of East Ridge Road. 

A K9 unit followed the robber's scent to a nearby cemetery, but the canine lost track of the suspect at that point.
