He did it! Weaver on stage at Grand Ole Opry

SALISBURY - You don't have to tell folks in Salisbury, Boone, and the surrounding area that Matthew Weaver is a gifted singer, songwriter, and musician.  They already know.

Now the rest of the world is getting a taste of that talent.

On Saturday night Weaver fulfilled a lifelong dream by performing on the stage of the historic Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

In Weaver's words, he says  "I’m deeply honored to have received what is called 'one of the most coveted invitations in all of music.'”

Lots of family and friends tuned in by way to the internet feed on WSM Radio.  Many posted comments on Matthew's Facebook page as he performed.

Scrabble Scramble spells out fun!

Scrabble Scramble spells out fun!

SALISBURY - The 8th Annual Scrabble Scramble to benefit the Rowan County Literacy Council was held Tuesday night at the Salisbury Holiday Inn and it resulted in a new championship team for the first time in 6 years.

The Trinity Oaks team got the win, snapping the 5 year winning streak held by the South Rowan YMCA Service Club.  The SR YMCA did manage to finish a strong second.

The Scrabble Scramble features teams of 6 or more who play three timed rounds of Scrabble.  Teams pay an entry fee and then buy tiles during the match.

All of the money raised goes towards the literacy programs promoted by the Literacy Council.

I've been fortunate to have the pleasure of emceeing this event for 7 of its 8 years.
