SALISBURY - Dozens of emergency service workers, local officials, and the public gathered Tuesday morning to mark the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.

As it has been observed each year since the one year anniversary in 2002, the ceremony was held at the Firefighter's Memorial on S. Main Street.

The service included remarks by keynote speaker Frank Thomason of Rowan Emergency Services, bagpipes playing "Amazing Grace," prayer, and the ringing of the fireman's bell to signal the end of shift.  343 firefighters lost their lives on 9/11 in New York, in addition to the thousands of other emergency workers and members of the public who perished in New York, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, PA.
