SALISBURY - The Patriot Guard was in Salisbury Tuesday to honor a veteran being buried at the National Cemetery.
John Dunphy, 80, passed away last month. Dunphey, who had been living in Lexington, had no immediate family, so the Patriot Guard stood in as Dunphey's family for the memorial service.
"Everybody needs somebody to remember them and I guess that's the mission we have picked up on is to honor and respect the service that people gave so they're not forgotten," said one Patriot Guard Rider.
Dunphy served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1946-1948.
"While we don't know much about Mr. Dunphy, we do know he made a commitment to serve his country and keep his fellow Americans out of harms way," John Hilfirty, Jr.
