Terrified teen hides in home as thieves break in, ransack house
Crime, News

SALISBURY - A 14 year old girl hid inside her home as two men broke in and ransacked the house, stealing nearly $4000 worth of items.

It happened Monday afternoon around 3 pm at a home on Dunn's Mountain Road east of Salisbury.

According to the report at the Rowan Sheriff's Office, the girl was home alone when she heard a knock on the front door.  She looked out the window and saw a man walking around the back of the house, and a strange pick up truck parked in the driveway.

The girl told deputies that the knocking grew louder, and she hid herself.  While she was hiding, she called her mother, who called a neighbor.  All the while two men were going through the house stealing things like jewelry, a guitar, and an amplifier, among other items.

The neighbor drove over to the house and noticed a man sitting at the wheel of the truck in the driveway.  He began to loudly rev the truck engine, prompting the two men inside the house to run out of the front door and jump in the truck.  The three then drove off towards Stokes Ferry Road.

Deputies arrived within minutes but were unable to locate the truck.  The truck was described as a faded, light blue GMC extended cab pick up.  The neighbors did get the license tag number, but when deputies checked it, they found it belonged to another vehicle, and was possibly stolen.

Deputies found that the front door lock had been broken by the men.

The 14 year old was frightened, but otherwise okay, according to the report.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Rowan Sheriff's Office at 704-216-8700.
