Update: Police need help catching gun toting purse snatchers

SALISBURY - Salisbury Police are hoping someone can identify the man in the surveillance pictures.  They say he stole a woman's purse, and that his parther then threatened to shoot customers who ran after him.

It happened at the Food Lion on Faith Road Monday afternoon, July 23, around 3:30.  Police say the victim, a 61 year old woman, was inside the store when a man grabbed her purse and ran out the front door.  Several customers heard the woman scream and ran after the man.

Police say once in the parking lot, customers grabbed the man and pushed him to the ground.  A woman driving a blue/green car, possibly a Chevy Cobalt, pulled up to the group.  The man yelled at the woman to get a gun from the car and shoot the customers who were holding him down.  The woman then pulled the gun and the customers backed away.  The man got in the car and the two drove off.

The man dropped the woman's pocketbook, but kept the wallet that was inside.

The man is described as a black male, 20 to 25 years old, light skinnned, and around 5'10". The female driver is described as a heavy set black female, 20 to 25 years old, according to police.

Police have been working the case and conducting interviews over the last few weeks, but so far no one has been charged.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333, or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
