Man faces incest, sex crimes charges | Crime

SALISBURY - A 66 year old Rowan County man is now in jail under $500,000 bond for sex crimes involving children.

Richard Lewis Waynick was booked into the Rowan Detention Center Tuesday morning just after 4 am.  Waynick is charged with indecent liberties with children, first degree sexual offense with a child under 13, and incest between near relatives.

The Rowan County Sheriff's Office began an investigation on July 12 that involved allegations against Waynick, of 420 St. Luke's Church Rd.  The investigation began after the Sheriff's Office received a referral from the Rowan County Department of Social Services.  The allegations were that Waynick was having inappropriate sexual contact with a 4 year old family member.   Investigator Mauldin, of the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, began his investigation working with DSS investigators as well.  Evidence and statements collected during the investigation revealed further allegations of sexual misconduct by Richard Lewis Waynick with two additional family members.
