Shopping cart getaway car doesn't get the job done

SALISBURY - Ronald Macon's choice of a getaway car didn't really get the job done as a Salisbury Police Officer was able to catch up with it.  On foot.

On Wednesday police received a call from Walmart about shoplifting.  When the officer arrived, the suspect, Ronald Macon, was walking out the door with a shopping cart containing more than $400 in various items believed to have been stolen from the store.

According to the report, when the officer yelled for Macon to stop, he jumped on the cart, kicked off with his leg, and tried to escape riding the cart like a scooter through the store parking lot.  The officer gave chase and quickly overtook the cart and its rider.

Macon was charged with larceny and also with trespassing when it was discovered that he had been banned from Walmart earlier in the year for a similar crime.
