Church break-in bandit busted

SALISBURY - Deputies in Rowan County say a thief who ripped off people while they were worshipping in a church service is now behind bars.

Kacey Wayne Adams is being held on $178,000 bond on dozens of charges that range from breaking and entering to larceny to misdemeanor child abuse.

It began on New Year's Day when several break-ins were reported at the Cripple Creek Roadhouse, then on Sunday morning, January 9,  worshippers at Gold Hill Baptist Church discovered that during the sermon, someone had been breaking into cars in the parking lot.

The church is located on Old Beatty Ford Road.

Surveillance video from the church security camera showed a man going from car to car in the parking lot during the service.  The church's security video shows a small SUV, which may be a Chevy Blazer, is possibly green in color.

Deputies dig into septic tank to get drugs for 2nd time in a month

SALISBURY - The deputies probably wished that Edward Alan Rodgers had thrown his stash somewhere, anywhere, besides where they say he did throw it.

Right in the toilet. On Thursday, Rowan County sheriff's deputies dug up a septic tank to get to drugs that a suspect flushed -- the first time was on Dec. 9 in Statesville when Iredell County authorities took the same tactic. (Read the earlier story)

The most recent incident started when Rowan County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at 140 Scarlet Rd., China Grove, NC.  According to the report, when detectives approached the door of the residence, Edward Alan Rodgers was seen running toward a bathroom inside the residence.

SALISBURY - The birth of his child wasn't the only significant thing to happen in the life of Bobby Edward Wesley, Jr., 17, of W. Fisher Street.

He was also arrested on several charges of breaking into a building and breaking into coin operated machines.

Police had been searching for Wesley, and had outstanding warrants for him on those charges from the Spencer Police Department when someone told them Wesley could be found at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Officers went to the hospital around 9:30 Thursday morning and found Wesley asleep in his girlfriend's room.  She had just given birth to their child.

Fisher was jailed under $1500 bond.

Homeowner clad in boxer shorts and cowboy boots stops teen Bud Light bandits, sheriff says

SALISBURY - A Poole Road man wearing only boxer shorts and cowboy boots, held two teenagers at gunpoint until deputies arrived to arrest the teens for trying to steal the man's Bud Light.

According to a report at the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, the homeowner, who asked not be identified, heard a noise outside of his home around 1:50 Thursday morning.

The homeowner got out of bed, slipped on his boots, grabbed a handgun, and went to investigate.

The homeowner found two teens, Cody Sisk, 17, and Keith Rattz, Jr., in a building behind his house.  The two had grabbed what the homeowner described as $12.99 worth of Bud Light beer and place it in a duffel bag.

Sisk is actually a neighbor to the homeowner.

When deputies arrived they found the homeowner holding the gun on the teens.

Sisk was charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny.  His bond is $30,000.  Rattz, Jr., was charged with felony

SALISBURY - The Rowan County Sheriff's Office and the US Attorney's Office announced a major round up of people wanted on federal drug charges.

The United States Attorney’s office for the middle district of North Carolina charged 18 individuals from Rowan and Davie Counties in two separate indictments on December 13, 2010.

The first indictment charged 9 defendants with conspiracy to distribute 280 grams or more of cocaine base (crack), along with several other counts of possessing cocaine base (crack), and federal firearm violations.

The second indictment charged 9 defendants with conspiracy to distribute 280 grams or more of cocaine base (crack), along with several other counts of possessing cocaine base (crack). If convicted of the conspiracy charge each defendant faces a mandatory sentence of no less than 10 years imprisonment, nor more than life and up to a four million dollar fine.

Police nab man hiding in counter at convenience store

SALISBURY - Gregory Phillips' plan to rip off the Poppa Topps store in Salisbury didn't work out so well, according to police.

Police responded to an alarm at the store lcoated at 902 South Main Street on Tuesday night and discovered a broken window in the front of the store.

Within minutes, the store owner arrived and let police in the front door.  The owner tried to turn on the lights, but the store remained dark.

It happened Sunday morning in the parking lot of Gold Hill Baptist Church in eastern Rowan.
