SPENCER - A woman injured in an early morning apartment fire in Spencer is now listed in critical condition at Wake Forest University baptist Medical Center.
Spencer Police Officers and the Spencer Fire Department were dispatched to a structure fire at 318 Grant Street in Spencer. When police arrived they were told by apartment staff that one tennant was unaccounted for, and may still be inside her apartment. Officers began a check of the apartments and found the door to the apartment that was on fire to be locked, officers were able to make entry with a key, and found 41 year old Lisa Stamps unconscious and lying on the floor at the door of the apartment. Sergeant Wayne Comer and MPO Jeremy Crews were able to pick up the victim and remove her to safety and turned her over to medical personnel. Rowan EMS transported the Stamps to Rowan Regional Medical Center and then Stamps was taken by helicopter to NC Baptist Hospital. Stamps is in critical condition at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. One officer was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and the fire was contained to Stamps apartment, and no one else was injured. The NCSBI was requested to assist with fire investigation and the incident is still under investigation by Investigator N.W. Pacilio, Spencer Police Department. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
