ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV)- An investigation is underway in Rowan County after the body of a man was found inside a burning mobile home.
According to investigators, crews were called out to a home along Wrangler Road at Highway 801 in Woodleaf around 7:30 a.m. Friday morning. This is in western Rowan County.
Neighbors reported seeing thick smoke and flames coming from the home. They knew the 67-year-old man was inside the home, but said it was too dangerous to get inside to save him.
"The very first volunteer that got here, I said 'There is somebody in there' and that's when he broke the glass and smoke rolled out and he said 'I can't go in there'."
Officials told WBTV they found the body of a man inside the burning building.
The Fire Marshal and Rowan County Sheriff are investigating the fire. Right now, there is no word on what started the fire.
Investigators say the victim suffered from a number of health problems. He had lived in that home for about 7 years.
