SALISBURY - A Rowan County home was destroyed by fire Monday morning just before 5 am, and four dogs inside the home died, according to officials.
The fire swept through the home on Pine Lake Drive, south of Salisbury near Lippard Road. Investigators say no one was home at the time and no one was hurt.
Fire crews stayed on the scene for several hours Monday morning. The cause of the fire has not been determined. Officials told WBTV they believe the fire started in the garage.
The woman who was renting the home was in the hospital at the time of the fire, her two children were staying with relatives. The Red Cross is helping the family.
