Police: Mae West robbed by Spiderman

SALISBURY - Spinning a tangled web of crime, a man wearing a Spiderman mask and gloves robbed a Chinese restaurant late Monday night.

Police say the man walked into the China Buffet on S. Arlington Street around 9:20 pm as the restaurant was closing.  He walked up to the cash register, pulled a black handgun, and demanded that cashier Mae West hand over the money.  West did as she was told.

As this was going on, a customer walked in the front door, saw what was happening, then turned around and walked back into the parking lot where he called 911.

"Spidey" then took the money and ran out the door and headed towards Cedar Street.  Police were there within minutes but the crook was gone.  A police dog was able to follow his track for a short distance before it abruptly stopped at the intersection, leading police to believe that the crook jumped into a car.

The robber was described as 5'11" tall with a slim build.  Due to the mask and gloves, the cashier couldn't discern the crook's ethnicity.  Along with the superhero outfit, the crook was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-JAIL (5245).
