SALISBURY - The internal investigation into the Salisbury Fire Department has been closed, according to the City of Salisbury.
Through the course of the investigation, the following disciplinary action was taken:
1. Tim Grisham, Engineer - Terminated
2. Chet Hedrick, Fire Control Specialist II - Terminated
3. Jeremi Carter - Fire Control Specialist II - Terminated (additional information discovered during the ongoing investigation)
4. Shawn McBride - Captain - Demotion to Engineer and Suspended (Five 24-hour shifts, without pay)
McBride is still serving in his capacity as chief of the East Spencer Fire Department.
Under state law the City of Salisbury has released all letters of personnel action that were sent to the firefighters who were involved in the investigation.
Salisbury Fire Chief Bob Parnell will issue a statement at 3:00 p.m. On Thursday Salisbury Mayor told WBTV that he, and city leaders, fully support Chief Parnell and believe the situation was handled professionally and quickly.
The City of Salisbury plans to answer media requests after Chief Parnell's written statement. According to a spokesperson, staff is currently focused on fulfilling all previously submitted public records requests in a timely manner.
The City says the goal is to have those requests fulfilled before close of business today.
In the last two years, in two sexual misconduct investigations, six firefighters have been terminated.
