A sickening feeling; driver gets sick, falls off Yadkin River bridge | News
SALISBURY - A driver on I-85 in Rowan County who began feeling sick behind the wheel ended up being the subject of a high angle rescue operation late Monday night.
According to Rowan County Emergency Medical Services Director Frank Thomason, the driver pulled over and stopped on the Yadkin River bridge, then when he attempted to lean over a bridge railing, fell into the water "a significant distance below."
The man wasn't seriously injured, but was stuck, leading to a big rescue operation by local firefighters and rescue workers from the Rowan Rescue Squad, Miller Ferry Fire Department, North Carolina Highway Patrol, Churchland Fire Department, Rowan EMS, and the Rowan County Sheriff's Department.
The driver was lifted back to the bridge, then taken to Novant Health Rowan with injuries that were described as "non life threatening."
